ADDITIONAL INFO:

This Spitfire aircraft with registration number N280TP and design number 6S/676372 was built for the RAF in 1945 and flown as RAF/TP280/Z with the 9th squadron. On 31st December 1947, the aircraft has been delivered to the Indian Air Force and was listed as HS654.

The production of Mk XVIII series (type 394) began only after the end of WWII as a refinement of the Mk XIV but it had a revised, stronger wing structure and carried extra fuel.

About 300 aircrafts of the Mk XVIII aircraft series were built and partially delivered to

the RAF in the Middle East and in Asia or, as for example in this case, sold to the

Indian Air Force.

This Spitfire aircraft has been retrieved from India in the 1970s and was returned to England for its technical restoration by Historic Flying. After its first flight after restoration in 1992 the aircraft has been sold to a new owner in the US. It is based in Germany since 2015.
